MAKE THE WORDS LIVE!

Creating liturgy from our daily lives - creative writing workshops on many aspects of writing for use in worship, with Andrew Pratt and Marjorie Dobson. Saturday 6th March 2010, 10.00am - 4.00pm.

How do we reflect the problems of the current economic situation in our worship?
Where are the prayers, hymns and messages that provide answers, or express our anxieties about the issue?  There is material available, but not enough, and sometimes it is difficult to find.

One solution is to explore our own creativity in writing and producing new material.  To help in that process, Andrew Pratt and Marjorie Dobson will be joining us at Carrs Lane to run workshops on many aspects of writing for use in worship.  The only subject they cannot cover is writing music, although words for hymns and songs will definitely be on the agenda.

They will then stay on for Sunday morning worship and incorporate some of the material that has been produced into the service.

Refreshments and lunch provided - £5 per person (free for the unwaged and students).

For further information – or to book your place for the day - email Neil Riches or phone (0121) 643 6151.

Andrew Pratt is a Methodist minister, prolific hymn writer and tutor in Contextual Theology at the Luther King Partnership in Manchester.  Marjorie Dobson is a Methodist local preacher, writer of hymns, prayers, poetry and short drama pieces for use in worship.  Both are established writers and have cooperated on two joint collections; one on material for situations of grief and bereavement and the other on material for use with people who want some kind of church ceremony, or connection, but ‘nothing too religious’.  There are good biographical notes on both of them on the Hymn Society website (scroll down to committee members 5 and 10).

Andrew and Marjorie are willing to look at hymns, songs, poetry and other forms of creative Christian writing in advance of the day, and offer feedback on 6th March.
