Music Events at Carrs Lane Church Centre

The Church at Carrs Lane is delighted to present an exciting series of concerts and workshops for 2012, in the busy heart of Birmingham.  We aim to offer something for everyone - from classical to light-hearted, and opportunities to learn something new!  We hope that you find something you enjoy.

Sunday 15th January 2012, 12:30-14:30 - Workshop: Organ Demonstration

An informal event offering the chance to learn more about the pipe organ.  Tim Batty (our Church Musician) will give a short talk, followed by an opportunity to look inside the workings of the organ, and finishing with a short demonstration, recital and exploration of the organ console.  Tea or coffee available; feel free to bring something to eat during the event.

Admission: free. 

 

 African Drums

Sunday 5th February 2012, 14:00-15:00 - African Drumming Workshop

Sarah Westwood of Drumvoice will lead a workshop on African drumming.
No experience necessary – just come and have some fun! 

Cost: £5 per person.  Limited to 20 people – please sign up on the church noticeboard, or contact the Church (at the top of this page).

The Choir With No Name.

Join us and our other London-based choir to sing, dance, make merry and gear yourselves up for the Games with this official countdown event to the London 2012 festival.  Expect to leave with a smile on your face, a song in your heart, and a sudden hankering to run the 100 metres . . .

Good Friday, 6th April 2012, 19:30 - Good Friday service

Centred around a performance of Fauré’s Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine,
sung by the combined choirs of The Church at Carrs Lane and Broadway URC, Walsall.

Sunday, 6th May 2012, 14:00-15:30 - Workshop on Dance Movement Psychotherapy

Stephanie Thomas and other M.Sc. students from the Birmingham Centre for Arts Therapies and the University of Worcester offer this talk on Dance Movement Psychotherapy.  Adaptable to all cultures, Dance Movement Psychotherapists work with a wide variety of clients to engage creatively in a process to further their emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration.  It has been found to be particularly useful to people who: are emotionally distressed; face learning difficulties; or are suffering physical or mental illness; and also, people who want to use the medium for personal growth.  Come along to hear more about this innovative therapy.
