Creative ActivitiesCultural EventsSome significant cultural events have been staged in our modern Church Room. We are always open to new opportunities to express our creativity - suggestions are welcome. Carrs Lane PlayersWe are the drama group of The Church at Carrs Lane. We do one main production a year (usually at the end of February) to raise funds for charity, and also do occasional sketches etc. for inclusion in worship. We are a friendly, informal group: new members are always welcome - any age, acting or backstage. We meet throughout the year for readings or rehearsals on Fridays, 7.45-9.45pm, at Carrs Lane Church Centre. Contact: information@carrslane.co.uk The 2012 production is John Buchan’s ‘THE 39 STEPS’, on February 23rd, 24th, and 25th. By arrangement with Edward Snape for Fiery Angel Limited As started in 2010, it is possible to have a pre-performance meal (see the play details). ================================================== The 2011 production was 'Tons of Money', one of the early Aldwych farces, written by 'Will Evans and Valentine', later adapted by Alan Ayckbourn. The plot is about trying to protect an unexpected inheritance from a long list of creditors. The audience gained a greater understanding of the word ‘devious’ by watching this funny play! A donation has been made from the proceeds to Birmingham charity Home From Hospital Care. The 2010 production was 'Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime'. This is a comedy written by Constance Cox, based on a short story by Oscar Wilde. It is a tongue-in-cheek tale satirising upper class morality in the 1890’s. Net proceeds were donated to The Prostate Cancer Charity. The 2009 production was ‘Rumours’, a farce by Neil Simon. It is about a group of affluent people who gather in the posh suburban residence of a couple, for a dinner party celebrating their wedding anniversary. When they arrive, they discover there are no servants, the hostess is missing, and the host, who is the Assistant Deputy Minister of Finance, has shot himself through the earlobe. Comical complications arise when, given everyone's upper class status, they decide they need to do everything possible to conceal the evening's events from the local police. Net proceeds were donated to the BBC WM Kids Kidney Appeal. The above plays were presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Ltd., unless otherwise stated. Document Actions |
