Counselling is

The opportunity for you to identify issues in your life that you would wish to change. Our trained counsellors will help you to explore, in a non-judgemental way, the options available to you, so that you may be better able to make decisions, and work towards living in a way that is more satisfactory to you.

Sessions

Are by appointment and will last for up to one hour.  After the first session your counsellor will discuss with you whether further sessions are likely to be helpful to you, and if so, how often and how many.  Sessions are held on weekdays, including some evenings.

Confidentiality

Anything you say will be between you and your counsellor.  Your counsellor will discuss any limitations to this with you during your first session.

Counselling is offered on a one-to-one basis in private rooms.  The Counselling Centre has a separate entrance from other organisations within the building, and you will be given directions when you receive the time and date of your first appointment.

Cost

A donation of £5 is requested at each session from those who are on benefits, and £10 from the employed.

Counsellors

All our counsellors provide their time voluntarily after undergoing our training course, and continue to train to keep abreast of current issues.  Many decide to train for nationally recognised professional qualifications, and work elsewhere in the caring professions.

Our counsellors work within the ethical framework of good practice set out by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

How

You can enquire about an initial counselling session by telephone: (0121) 643 6363,
on weekday mornings between 11.00am and 1.00pm.  You may have to try more than once, as our counsellors are often very busy.

It is important that you make the call yourself rather than get someone else to phone on your behalf. You may have to wait a few weeks for an appointment, and will be asked to give us details of how we can contact you by phone.
