At Carrs Lane, we do not believe in ‘one-size-fits-all’ Christian worship. Instead, we offer a range of opportunities to share in prayer and worship – different styles, different times, different days. In our more formal services we draw on the traditions of the United Reformed Church and Methodist Church.
All these acts of worship have one thing at heart, however: an honest attempt to understand what it means to respond to Jesus’ command to, ‘Follow me’.
On a Sunday, a good number of people gather to share in morning worship at 10.30am. This service is often fairly traditional in format (but not over-formal), with challenging, relevant teaching and a mixture of styles of music. Other than on the fourth Sunday in each month (which is all-age
worship), groups for children and young people run in parallel with adult teaching
during the service.
Children’s Church, run for children from various city centre churches, meets on the second Sunday of each month at 2.30pm, where worship incorporates appropriate activities and refreshments.
Radical Worship takes place on the fourth Sunday evening of each month at 6.30pm: this service is intended to help Christians develop an agenda for radical social and spiritual action, and often uses film to stimulate discussion and reflection.
On Wednesdays, a short, informal Communion Service, open to all, takes place at 1.15pm.
Wednesday Evening Worship
On the first Wednesday evening each month there is the opportunity to gather for prayer at 7.00. The time is used both for prayers for healing and for general prayers.
Food4Thought – a congregation for young adults run in conjunction with Aston University Free Church Chaplaincy – meets in the Martin Luther King Centre in Aston University on the second and fourth Mondays of the month during term time at 7.30pm: informal reflective worship is followed by a shared meal.
