Journey of a Local Preacher in TrainingLong before I started at Carrs Lane, I took my first steps on path to becoming a local preacher. While being something common to the URC tradition, I am training within the Methodist Church who use such preachers as the backbone of leaders of worship. Economic DownturnAs many of us are aware we are in a credit crunch, an economic downturn or slow-down in the markets. All of these phrases, and many more, have been used to describe the negative change in the UK economy in the run up to the official announcement that we are in a recession. That announcement is anticipated between the time I draft this and the date of publishing so, for the purposes of this article I shall consider us to be in recession. The House of the Rising SunOver the last weekend in August, I made my annual trip to the Greenbelt Festival, at Cheltenham Racecourse. The festival of music and arts is a Christian event attracting a broad and diverse group of people. The title and theme for this year’s gathering was Rising Sun and there was a very interesting article in the program – the content of which forms the inspiration for the current ponderings. A question of worshipI very nearly entitled this entry "What do you do in worship, and what does it do in you?" but thought I'd psyche myself up to the question... Document Actions |
